ALESSIO PINTON

Alessio Pinton’s work revolves around philosophical-scientific research, with a specific focus on natural science and experimental digital narratives. With his work, Pinton aims for a more holistic (and empathetic) perception of the self in relation to the other. In an attempt to better understand our empathetic relationship with the inorganic world, Pinton’s narratives give authorship and performative space to these inorganic phenomena themselves.

One such example is An Amalgam Loop, a self-performing sound installation that translates the ionic fluctuations of the chemical reaction between limestone and vinegar. What emerges is a soundscape composed in real-time, entirely directed by matter itself. The installation challenges the separation of matter into living and non-living, or biological and geological, in a reality that leans heavily on mutual dependency and interconnectivity.

An Amalgam Loop exposes the mutations of seemingly inorganic matter in real-time, thereby contributing to a dialogue on the expanded self and exploring empathy towards the non-living.
