MILO POELMAN
Milo is a visual artist whose research-driven practice explores the porous boundary between technology and the natural world. Working primarily with mixed-media installations, he combines video, sculpture, text, digital simulations, generative systems and photography to create spatial environments where digital and physical realities begin to overlap.
Starting from the idea that technology is not separate from nature but an extension of it, his work investigates themes such as self-organization, authorship, reproduction and simulation. Drawing from philosophical, scientific and cultural research, he explores parallels between biological processes, technological systems and contemporary digital culture.
His installations invite visitors to move through and observe the work from multiple perspectives, approaching it not as a fixed object but as a moment within an ongoing investigation. Writing, material experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration form integral parts of his artistic practice.
Milo is currently working on an ongoing research project titled Abiogenesis, which explores the emergence of life and the conditions under which non-living matter might become life-like. The project approaches technology as part of this continuum, investigating how processes such as self-organization, adaptation and reproduction manifest across both biological and technological systems.
Material experimentation plays an increasingly important role within this research. Recently, Milo has been working with tin casting, using 3D-printed molds to produce sculptural elements that combine the aesthetics of electronics, robots and microbiology. Tin holds conceptual significance as it's the material that enables connectivity in electronic circuits through solder, forming a literal and symbolic link between technological systems and organic processes.
