NOOR BOITEN

Noor Boiten is a visual artist working with mixed-media video installations. Their practice combines elements of sculpture, video, text, 3D-animation and photography and explores the impact of digital culture on gender and structures of domination. Their work is research-driven and is influenced by media theory and intersectional philosophy.

In their practice Boiten researches the (im)materiality of the off- and online spaces we interact with, convinced that these spaces can be used as tools to understand complex power structures. Their work navigates in-between the margins of the personal and the universal, creating an inclusive, intimate and light-hearted setting. Images resonating with digital culture are alternated with layered conceptual narratives, often combining critical thought with humor, and are accompanied by critical writing and essays. In their installations, which function as translations of virtual liminal spaces, Boiten opens up space to discuss tough or complex topics through the language of the digital commons.

Boiten’s projects are shaped by theoretical research and Boiten’s own positioning in society as a genderqueer person. With a wide range of materials including repurposed construction materials, steel, wood and 3D-printing, Boiten creates large-scale multi-channel video-installations that observe and comment on our relationship to our (non-)physical surroundings and the objects, people or ideas that we interact with.

Within KIT Noor takes on the roles of managing director and curator.

Noor Boiten is currently artist in residency at Bucharest AiR and will exhibit their work This lukewarm world at Centrul Artelor Vizuale in a solo-exhibition from May 28th-June 11th.
